(#29) Thich Nhat Hanh on Finding the Best Practice for You

“Only by using your intelligence and putting the teachings into practice can they bring you happiness. Please base your practice on your own life and your own experiences — your successes and your failures.”

- Thich Nhat Hanh, The Heart of the Buddha’s Teaching

Although this passage is about practicing the Buddha’s teachings, I think it applies perfectly to finding a suitable breathing practice, too.

We must learn from others, but remember that no recipe fits us all. It’s up to us to experiment and base our practice on our own lives and experiences. That’s what will ultimately bring us happiness.

P.S. This wisdom also applies to basically any other area of our lives we’re trying to get better in, too 🙏
