(#134) Let Emotions Go Cold

“Please remember that emotions will always pass. Even if you do not meditate, everything changes and shifts—but often an emotion remains ‘hot’ as it moves along. In dharma language, the critical question to ask is whether the emotions go out hot or cold. In the light of awareness, emotions go out ‘cold.’ Like a defanged snake, a noise is made but the bite is not poisonous.”

– Larry Rosenberg, Three Steps to Awakening

Here’s another way to look at the benefits of breathing, meditation, or any other contemplative practice you might do for emotional regulation.

Emotions will pass either way, but our practice helps them go cold 🙏
