Breath is Digestion

In this interview, Michal Stephen, MD, states that the lungs evolved as an offshoot of the digestive system (not from the gills).

That’s a crazy perspective to take, and it makes a lot of sense.

Our digestive system takes in food, extracts nutrients, and then discards the rest.

Our respiratory system takes in air, extracts energy, and then discards the rest.

Thus, breathing is essentially the digestion of air.

This helps explain why breathing & digestion are so inner-related.
