“Slow breathing could be a simple beneficial intervention in diabetes.”
The Breathing Diabetic Philosophy
Diabetes is Tiny. You are Mighty.
We did not choose diabetes, its complications, or its 24/7 demands. And to take care of it, the last thing we need is more stress. Diabetes provides enough of that already.
What we need is to make diabetes tiny.
To make small, effortless changes that improve our health and control, allowing us to manage the inevitable ups and downs that come with diabetes.
This might sound a bit ridiculous at first, but the way you breathe is that tiny change.
Of course, it’s not a cure-all. But as you will learn on this website, a regular breathing practice is possibly the simplest, safest, and most effective thing we can do to address many diabetic problems.
You will still get high. You will still get low.
It is diabetes we’re talking about here, after all. (And any program that says you won’t is being disingenuous toward people with diabetes.)
So although it won’t happen as often, you will still get high, and you will still get low. But you won’t get down.
Your blood sugars won’t stress you out as much. You’ll have a simple tool that’s always available—your breathing—to offset the disheartening effects of fluctuating blood sugars.

Each Monday, I curate and synthesize information from scientific journals, books, articles, and podcasts to share 4 thoughts, 1 quote, and 1 answer (like "Jeopardy!") related to breathing.
It’s a fun way to learn something new each week. I guarantee you’ll enjoy it.
Who is The Breathing Diabetic?
Hi, I’m Nick
I have been a type-1 diabetic for over 20 years. A few years ago, I made some simple changes to my breathing, and my blood sugars have never been better. This put me on a journey to understand the science behind breathing and diabetes. This website documents that journey.
I hope this site will help you breathe better and improve your overall health and well-being.
